A higher education institution must serve as a research centre and an innovation centre in addition to being a teaching centre.

Every higher education institution must be able to perform at least those three duties. And Telkom University is no exception.

Therefore, managers of higher education institutions must be able to transform the institutions under their control into teaching institutions as well as research institutions and innovation institutions.

So far, Telkom University appears to have done a good job of performing those three duties as one of Indonesia's top universities.

We have seen that Telkom University is now a hub for numerous types of research and innovation in addition to being a teaching institution.

Higher education institutions need to consistently develop two key areas: research and innovation. Thus, colleges and universities must have research centres in order for research and innovation activities to function effectively.

The major goals of research centres are knowledge creation, innovation development, and problem solving.

Pertaining to technologies, there are now at least five research centres just within Telkom University.

Firstly, AICOMS. This research centre specialises in the creation of 4G, 5G, and 6G networks. By creating ideal collaborative research models, enhancing research quality, and fostering collaboration, AICOMS hopes to become the top research centre for artificial intelligence (AI) and telecommunications in the world.

Secondly. the internet of things (IoT) centre. This research centre carries out studies on the advancement of science and technology in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector, including creating goods to meet market demands, providing training in the IoT sector, and hosting seminars and expos. Electronic systems, sensors, actuators, embedded systems, communication systems, networks, power systems, and energy systems are among the research areas created by Telkom University's IoT centre.

Thirdly, DBE centre. DBE stands for digital business ecosystem. Founded in July 2018, DBE centre is part of a strategy to strengthen Telkom University's research capabilities. DBE has a focus on developing social research.

Fourthly, HUMiC, which is a research centre that focuses on technological engineering related to supporting daily human activities. HUMiC focuses on developing wearable devices and sensors that are integrated with the human body. In the field of science, HUMiC is also interested in collecting data and information about the activities of the human body.

Fifthly, AdCNet. This is a Telkom University research centre that focuses on network development. This research centre has several concepts including computing infrastructure in cognitive networks, computing infrastructure in adaptive networks, advanced automation and control of IoT, super capacitor electrode fabrication, multimedia application technology, computing infrastructure for big data and IoT, as well as instrumental development.

In the development of research and innovation, of course, Telkom University cannot walk alone. It needs to  foster collaboration with various institutions, both in the public and private sectors.

Take, for example, the collaboration that has been conducted between Telkom University and Mitratel in the field of design and prototyping, which includes new smart poles, design poles at IKN, magnetic infinity power generators, water fuel power generators, and infinity life battery banks.

Telkom University has also conducted collaborations with the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) and the National Food Agency (BPN) for the implementation of innovative products related to calculating staple food prices using machine learning technology and formulating policy recommendations for controlling the stability of food supply and prices as a form of implementing research and innovations.

Aside from collaborating with domestic institutions, Telkom University has also initiated collaborations with foreign institutions. In March 2023, for instance, Telkom University and Wageningen University, the Netherlands, initiated a collaboration in research on the development of artificial intelligence and IoT in agriculture.

Previously, in February 2023, Telkom University also initiated a research collaboration in the field of metaverse and blockchain with Kumoh National Institute of Technology, South Korea.

Such collaborations, of course, need to be continuously promoted, improved, and expanded since they are very important in supporting quality improvement and in achieving Telkom University's vision as a world-class university that functions as a teaching centre, research centre, and innovation centre.

Let's #AchieveOurBrighterFuture along with Telkom University!

Mencekal Tante Sun

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” Dangdut is the music of my country , begitu kata para personel Project Pop. Kalau Korea boleh bangga punya K-pop, maka Indonesia semestinya bangga punya dangdut. Menurut Andrew N Weintraub, Professor Musik di Universitas Pittsburgh, Amerika Serikat, yang juga penulis  buku bertajuk Dangdut Stories: A social and Musical History of Indonesia ‘s Most Popular Music , salah sa...

Rayap-rayap Perusak Negara
